  2. Entries should consist of an audio feature or documentary in English of between 10 and 15 minutes duration, produced by an individual student between 13th February 2024 and 10th February 2025.

  3. The prize is open to:

    a.    current students,
    b.    former students who graduated in 2024, from Further or Higher Education establishments within the United Kingdom.
    c.    those who have attended an accredited media training course completed within the dates listed in clause 2 above.

  4. All entries must be the original work of the entrant under guidance of their tutor with no additional professional intervention and must not infringe the rights of any other party.

  5. Entries must be submitted by the student’s (or former student’s) academic institution/training provider and accompanied by a completed entry form, with sign-off by the student’s tutor, downloadable as a Word version or PDF version. Each academic institution/training provider may submit a maximum of ten entries. The supervisor’s signature is an indication that the entry is compliant with the present terms and conditions.

  6. Regardless of entrant’s status as a student, the competition is not open to paid employees (staff, contract or freelance) of professional broadcasting organisations and/or those supplying material to such broadcasters: a) between the qualifying period in clause 2 above or b) between the starting and finishing dates of their course. Freelance employment exceptions are set out on the Charles Parker Prize website.

  7. Entries must be submitted as a digital file in WAV format (48kHz 16bit) and uploaded, along with a completed entry form, via WeTransfer to charlesparkerprize@hotmail.com. No other format or delivery method will be accepted.

  8. Entry opens on Monday 25th November 2024 and closes on Monday 10th February 2025 at 2359. Entries received outside of this time frame will not be considered, under any circumstances.

  9. The prize will be awarded to the entrants that, at the judges’ sole discretion, best meet the judging criteria listed on the Charles Parker Prize website.

  10. The prize consists of one Gold Award winner and a selection of up to four other entrants who will be invited to work with a professional feature maker to adapt their entry, as required, for a transmission on BBC Radio 4.

  11. Entries must be suitable for broadcast and use online by BBC Radio 4 under licence from the independent production company Soundscape Radio Productions Limited and not have been previously broadcast on a national broadcasting network.

  12. Entrants retain the copyright in their entries but, by submitting the feature to the Charles Parker Prize, grant to the Charles Parker Trust/Soundscape Radio Productions Limited a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged. The benefits of such a licence may be transferred by Soundscape Radio Productions Limited, at its sole discretion, to the BBC or any other third party of its choosing. The licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable such use by the BBC to fulfil the prizes.

  13. By submitting a story the entrant agrees that the Charles Parker Trust/Soundscape Radio Productions Limited may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the entry for the purposes listed in clause 12 above.

  14. This Charles Parker Trust assumes no responsibility for the acts or omissions of those submitting entries pursuant to these Terms and Conditions. By entering, entrants guarantee they have obtained the permission of the rights-holder for any submission.

  15. A panel of judges will be appointed by the Charles Parker Trust.

  16. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

  17. Decisions about whether entries meet the eligibility criteria will be taken by the Charles Parker Trust at its sole discretion.

  18. The Charles Parker Trust reserves the right to amend these Terms and Conditions or cancel this competition at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside its control.
